Renée Fleming as the Marschallin leads Baden-Baden’s stellar cast for this sumptuous production of Strauss’ late-Romantic opera Der Rosenkavalier (The Knight of the Rose). Accompanied by Sophie Koch as her young lover Octavian, and Diana Damrau as Sophie, with Jonas Kaufmann as the ‘Italian Singer’, the production was described by The Sunday Times as “…a deluxe Rosenkavalier.” Romantic specialist Christian Thielemann conducts the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra performing for the first time at the Festspielhaus and a luxurious set of timeless elegance is dominated by an innovative play of mirrors which reflect the shifting emotions of the lead trio.
